Home Is Where The Music Is

Seminar screenings with Amal Alhaag, Zippora Elders, Krista Jantowski and Aude Christel Mgba

Opening a Curatorial Programme (CP) seminar to the full public – including current and prospective participants – the co-curators of sonsbeek20→24 have composed “a sonic and dialectic proposition.” This will take form in a series of seminars that “engage with the concept of home during a time when self-isolation, homelessness, precarity, but also joyous solitude push us to engage and provoke differently our relationship to home, homegoing, memory and spatial politics.” The co-curators will participate in “a collective conversation where they unpack and think through different relations to the notion of home. Moving beyond the physicality of home and through ideas of belonging and disbelonging, (de)rooting, errantry and exile, they connect home to a more unfixed and active notion of homecoming or homegoing. What does it mean to approach home from a diasporic position, of having relations to places you can’t go home to? How do music, sound, food and smells bring us home or alienate us? And in connection to labour and citizenship, what does it mean when home is (un)conditional? For this conversation dispersed over multiple days, the curatorial team of sonsbeek20→24 will bring music, poetry, sounds, voice notes and maybe a few people.”

The seminars will be streamed live on this page as well as on our Facebook page. On Facebook, viewers will have the possibility to ask questions.
